I’ve had my eyes on Danchi Days since its announcement. From the co-creator of Anodyne and Angeline Era, Danchi Days takes place around the daily life of 12-year-old Hoshino. She moves back to her Japanese hometown to support her grandma, who is living with dementia. Hoshino decides to revive the local summer festival as a way to cheer her up and revive old, fading memories. This sparks hijinks as the local neighbours are all a bit quirky.
I’m excited for Danchi Days because:
- It’s a slice-of-life adventure, but with a heartfelt story to tell (and one I’ve had personal dealings with)
- There’s an in-game internet, which scratches my FakeOS itch
- A colourful cast of characters to interact with, each with their own lives to learn about
- Minigames, which are built around the five senses of the human body (smell o vision?!)
- A 3DS HD graphical style that feels retro and modern at the same time
I’m ready to have my heart swollen and stolen by the community in this danchi (Japanese mass housing complex). The release date has been confirmed for 29th October. Chapter 1 is already available as a demo, taking around 90 minutes to complete. You can wishlist Danchi Days on Steam.
