DIEATHLON combines alpine downhill skiing and first-person demon shooting

FPS games are easily my least-played genre. I largely don’t enjoy them, but also find them quite disorientating and motion-sickness inducing. The rare time an FPS game gets me interested is when there is a strange mash-up or unique hook.

Welcome to DIEATHLON, a game that combines downhill skiing with demon shooting. The idea is that you’ll need to race downhill, avoiding obstacles and making pathfinding decisions as you descend down the mountain, all the while shooting your way out of danger as monsters attack you from all directions. Whilst it isn’t a rhythm game, DIEATHLON reminds me heavily of the absolutely superb Fresh Tracks. That title is a rhythm skiing dodge-em-up and shooter. DIEATHLON is not tied to a musical rhythm or soundtrack. Instead, it focuses on a perk and progression system that prioritises maintaining momentum to stay alive and score big points.
