There have been a few missteps in the RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise in recent years. Most notably, the baffling RollerCoaster Tycoon World entry simply failed to land in a workable state. I have reasons to be optimistic about yesterday’s exciting announcement, and I want to share the good news.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks comes to us from the developer Springloaded, who made the excellent Let’s Build A Zoo and are in the process of developing Let’s Build A Dungeon. They’ve a strong track record for great games (GORSD is superb), and so I have faith that they’ll be able to restore this franchise’s quality metrics.
There are plenty of things that stand out to me and give me reasons to be excited. They include:
- a return to an isometric perspective, giving me that 90s and 00s theme park vibe
- a new coaster builder
- customisation for every attraction and scenery piece
- all the pain and pleasure of running a theme park from broken rides to explosive moments of guest happiness
- keeping the original cheeky humour without sacrificing detailed management systems
- the ability to send your guests flying off into eternity or become trapped in endless queues. Whoops. Not.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks will be coming to early access on PC in Winter 2026. You can wishlist RollerCoaster Tycoon Wonderworks on Steam. When the game is completed, console versions will follow.
