Turbo Turbo combines retro racing with an on-rails shooter

An 80s M.A.S.K. cartoon racer prototype finds new life.

I love a good origin story. Turbo Turbo originally started out life as a pitch to Hasbro to make a game about the 80s cartoon M.A.S.K. Since that wasn’t picked up, solo dev Baardmoeder pivoted to make the prototype his own IP.

Enter Turbo Turbo, a game that wants to revive the spirit of 80s and 90s arcade racing, combining it with a Sin & Punishment on-rails shooter twist. Players steer with one analogue stick and aim to shoot with the other. There’ll even be a co-op mode that allows players to split up the arcade duties. The trailer showcases some of the unhinged comedic side, with aliens trying to beam up players, and plenty of cows being launched into the air. However you play, it looks like a fun throwback, mixed with modern controls and quality-of-life features.

Turbo Turbo launches today on Kickstarter. If you’d like to support development, consider supporting Baardmoeder. You can also wishlist Turbo Turbo on Steam.
