To celebrate Dorfromanik’s 5th anniversary, a cosmetic Medieval Biome DLC has been released. I adore Dorfromanik, and it’s grown from strength to strength over the years. I have a review video of the game from shortly after its launch, but I’ll write a separate fresh review as the game has been improved and expanded since. Put simply, it’s cosy city-building with hex-tile matching at its finest.
The Medieval Biome DLC adds three new medieval styles to cover off a winter, spring/summer, and autumn feel of medieval buildings. There are ships with sails, wooden windmills, and plenty of charming towns. When combined with the new night mode (part of a free update), the new buildings shine like stars in twilight. Along with the cosmetics, two new music tracks have been added. Players can toggle each of the three styles on or off alongside all the base game biomes in the menu. That means, regardless of whether you are playing a competitive mode or exploring your creative side in the creative mode, you have strict controls over what types of buildings will generate in your tile stack. Creative mode gives you the option to clone existing tiles or generate a matching tile that works with what you’ve got. That’s as close to complete creative control that Dorfromantik gives. Part of the game’s charm is its flowing, naturalistic sprawl.
Whilst this adds no new game mechanics, the added cosmetics are beautifully done, and it adds more variety and flavour to the world you create. Happy 5th anniversary. Now… do I have room for their board game version, I wonder?
