Final Fantasy IX is one of my all time favourite games. Clearly I’m not the only gamer that holds the game dear as over 50 developers and artists have collaborated together to create a vision of what a true ground up remake of the game could look like. Title ‘Final Fantasy IX: Memoria Project’, its a proof of concept build in UE5, making use of modern graphics to bring the game to life.
A 25 minute video demo has been released today showing the opening of the game as Vivi roams around Alexandria. It is superbly done with cut scene nods from the original and shot for shot rebuilds of Dagger’s FMV from the castle. I am genuinely in awe of what people have done as a passion project for fun. Vivi with a voice over? They nailed that along with the superb rearrangement of ViVi’s theme too. Even that pesky skipping minigame is in it!
