TET is a free, bitesized cooking minigame that challenges you to cook a Vietnamese Lunar New Year dinner before your guests arrive. The problem is, you’ve left it until the last minute. This means you’ll need to complete 8 short cooking minigames within the time limit to have dinner ready before they ring the doorbell. TET’s challenge is simple, but the timing leaves so little room for error or delay that it’ll take a few attempts to win.

TET’s minigames are mouse-based and involve rolling wraps, peeling carrots, cutting tofu, cooking dessert, and, crucially, squashing bugs on lettuce leaves. Most of the minigames are simple press-and-hold waves of the mouse, but TET often struggles with framerates and keeping up with the player when swapping objects. For example, you’ll need to peel several carrots, but the transition from one to another always glitches out and freezes. The freezing slows you down, and you have about 5 seconds’ margin to beat the timer. The one minigame that offers some kind of non-reactionary gameplay is the bug-squashing minigame. If you can clear that quickly, you’ll be in good timing. If you take more than 7 or 8 seconds, you’ll lose.
Whilst the hand-drawn, adult cartoon-style graphics are vibrant and playful, TET isn’t something you’ll be spending tons of time with to appreciate the visuals or gameplay mechanics. It isn’t a bad game, it’s just over within 2-3 minutes per attempt. You won’t win the first time; it’ll take many attempts to succeed. Even then, you’ll be done in 20 minutes. I’d love to see TET expanded, as cooking minigames are often fun at a surface level, but often lack variety and depth. At least the controls for the games are varied, and despite the freezes, TET plays well. Just expect those guests to get to you before dessert is on the table!
