Hidden object games run a gambit of ideas these days and the Hidden Cats in… series has made its way to console. Hidden Cats in London is largely centred around an animated drawing of a tourists impression of the UK’s capital. Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, Abbey Road… and about 150 cats to find. Its a warm and cozy hidden object game that’s not too stressful or challenging but offers a good amount of content for the price.
Whilst there are unlockable bonus static levels to find cats in, the main draw here is London itself. Traffic moves on the road, the trains and boats enter and leave the area and people on the street have frames to their animation. It feels alive like a well designed point n click screen and this adds atmosphere and extra challenge to the game. On normal difficulty you are asked to find 100 cats and they’ll be dotted around an outline of the scene. As you find cats, which will meow as the come into view on screen as a hint, you’ll start to colour in the city. Its a great way to show both progression but also where missing cats will be.

Once you’ve cleared normal mode, hard mode appears. This asks you to find 150 cats but their positions are randomised. Its here where the replayability is because often they’ll be in train windows or sat in a moving car and so you need to be quick as well as observant sometimes to get them all. There are also characters to find and some bonus cats with card profiles to find too. These cats unlock further smaller scenes, building up the amount of cat fun here. Its not stressful and whilst the hint system is helpful, if you run out of direct pointing hints, the cat meows will steer you towards you goal anyway. Its a lovely game and I don’t really have any negatives to highlight outside of it largely being one giant scene to dig around. I also really like the optional DLC to print the game out as a colouring in book for kids that enjoy arts and crafts.
If you like the look and sound of Hidden Cats in London, there are four other games in the series. New York, Rome and Paris are very similar whereas Spooky Town is a Halloween fictional take on things. The series is cheap and if you are looking for wholesome and relaxed hidden object games, this series is well worth a look.
