In this final episode of Season 1 of Hi-Potion Mental Health in Gaming, I talk about Playne. Playne is a meditation game that places you on a small island with a fox. Each day it asks you to meditate and you can access some guided meditation and a breathing bubble to control your breath. As you get into a rhythm playing Playne day after day, the island around you grows. Trees grow, weather cycles and day/night cycles are added, stars in the sky and butterflies appear. It’s lovely to track your progression with a small reward. Break your daily streak and potentially you’d have to start again but a second mode allows you to keep your progress but you never quite get a raging campfire to sit next to in the game.
My relationship with meditation is odd. I get why it works but my mind won’t stay still and I began to approach it like a tick list which is the wrong way to approach it. This video explores that and then spends the rest of the two hours as a timelapse video, building up the island around you.
