I have been given the privilege of being a juror for Indie Cup Canada 2023 – an indie games awards and showcase platform. It tours around the world and it just so happens I’m on the panel for the Canadian showcase. 80 games were submitted for the Critics Choice award and I thought it would be interesting to showcase all 80 games with their trailers and talk through my jury nominations process.
I did this over the course of 5 hours and 2 livestreams, which you’ll be able to view below. Each video has a list of the games (some are early prototypes and not available for wishlisting yet) in the video description. I explain what stood out for me in each submission and tips for developers who are looking to submit games to these types of awards and showcases. Whilst my experience as a juror is limited, I’ve over 15 years of running websites that now get up to 100 submissions a day, so knowing how to make something stand out is very helpful!
After all the jurors have shortlisted a selection of games, they’ll be converted to votes and then the shortlist advance to the demo stage in November. I’ll try to share more of that process next month.
