I was lucky enough to be invited to a playtest for Origament: A Paper Adventure this week. It showcased three levels and the clever origami-themed mechanics of how puzzle platforming in this world works. The player transitions between four origami states to sail, roll, glide, and spin their way around interesting levels. It left a great impression and is firmly on my wishlist for release. Enjoy this extended preview that soft launches the start of a new series: Playtesting.
Playtesting is a new series that provides public previews to developers who have conducted private or public playtesting and have asked for feedback. I am a content and service designer by day, and I spend most of my time thinking about improving the user experience of content for everyday people. This series will explore that in different ways, looping in user experience laws over time. I’ve kept this first episode at pure gameplay impressions to ease the format in, but expect me to go into more technical detail in future episodes.
